  • Low friction
  • Excellent vacuum retention
  • Spring loaded Teflon Lip
  • Springless designs

Race-tec NAK has developed low friction, high performance seals for use with both standard and high vacuum engines in race car applications. The range includes PL, PL6 spring less seal and the latest dual lip PLx2 seals, which have PTFE lining on both sealing lips

Race-tec PL6 and PLx2 seals have been designed to hold high sump vacuums in excess of 24” Hg.

Materials

The elastomer can be any of the common compounds, Nitrile (NBR), Hydrogenated Nitrile (HNBR), Fluoroelastomers (FKM).

The PTFE selected may be basic “virgin” PTFE through a range of filled and special grades, which are designed and selected according to the application requirements.

Technical Features

The standard PTFE lined seals for non-vacuum engines have been developed to offer the lowest running friction; consistently 40-60% less power loss than most other PTFE seal types and are also more forgiving of the manufacturing variations found in adjacent components.

In house rig testing has extended the range of speeds to 25,000 rpm giving surface speeds of 100 m/s with full vacuum.

The PLx2 design has two PTFE lined lips, one controls the oil under low vacuum running, whilst the second lip offers dust protection and vacuum control. The PLx2 seal is available as either a one-piece construction or two-piece split seal for special crank designs.

Applications

Race-tec NAK seals are used in all forms of top motorsport i.e. F1, sportcars, WRC, Nascar, where the seal is custom designed to meet the performance demands of the application, whether it be ultra-low friction qualifying, low friction dirt exclusion, etc.
