Having applied PTFE lined (PL) technology to a number of water pump projects, Race-tec has developed a knowledge base that enables problems associated with other seal technologies in a water/oil environment to be overcome, whilst out performing friction reductions.

Race-tec NAK PL water pump seals have a proven history in motorsport applications ranging from F1 to karting.

Performance Features

Materials

The elastomer can be any of the common compounds, Nitrile (NBR) and Hydrogenated Nitrile (HNBR).

The PTFE selected may be basic “virgin” PTFE through a range of filled and special grades, which are designed and selected according to the application requirements.

Technical Features

Seals can be designed with multiple PL lips to ensure coolant control is maintained.

Since the seals run with a very narrow contact band on the shaft, PL seals do not experience the boundary lubrication problems found with other seal technologies in water pump applications.

If necessary, seals can be provided pre-greased between the sealing lip to aid running in the dry conditions.

Applications

Race-tec NAK seals are used in all forms of top motorsport i.e. F1, sportcars, WRC, Nascar, karts, where the seal is custom designed to meet the performance demands of the application, whether it be ultra-low friction qualifying, low friction dirt exclusion, etc.
