Powder mixing equipment produce a very aggressive environment for sealing rotating shafts. These machines can have high levels of both dynamic and static eccentricity, plus the seals are expected to run with minimal lubrication to prevent contamination of the powder. Another contamination risk is created by the design of the seal creating areas where the powder can become trapped.
To overcome these issues, we have developed our MT seal, which has been thoroughly tested and has been adopted by an OEM for powder processing. The dynamically loaded self-compensating rotary shaft seal uses an integrated PTFE liner as the only interface with the shaft. This sealing lip design reduces surface wear and running friction whilst accommodating significant radial and angular misalignment. The enclosed, compact (8 x 8mm) designs offers no areas for powder entrapment.
Special material formulations have been developed containing only approved ingredients at levels permitted under CFR 21 FDA 177-2600, capable of temperatures up to 230°C
