In most racing transmissions there can be more rotary seals than the rest of the vehicle making it a focus for the designers to save space, weight and frictional losses. We can offer a range of different seal styles, for example, the PL6 spring-less seal was developed as an output seal to offer a compact design fitting within an envelope only 4mm square on a shaft diameter of 85mm.
The majority of seals are designed to press fit into housings, however, where space is premium the seals can be bonded directly to flange housing components.
For classes running OEM transmissions, where permitted, we can supply a higher performance alternative seal, whether it be a PTFE lined seal or an optimised elastomer lip seal. In many cases frictional and weight benefits can be achieved.
With all of our seals the design can be optimised using different grades of elastomer and PTFE to suit the specific requirements of the application i.e. shaft wear, temperature, oil viscosity.
